Single Parents

A single father and two children walking through the woods.

Whether you have always been or are a newly single parent, there will be times when you feel overwhelmed. Children demand a great deal from their parents physically, financially and emotionally.

There are a range of organisations that provide ongoing support, information and guidance.

Co-parenting means that your child remains in contact with you both and with that, care, finances, as well as decisions regarding your child's future can be done together, where possible.

Working with external organisations can give you the necessary support to care for your children following divorce or separation.

Only Mums and Only Dads provide UK-wide support to all parents: from those in full contact with their children, to those who have little or no contact. There is advice, from an expert panel, ranging from finances and debt, to dating and relationships.

Helpful Organisations:

Gingerbread operates a helpline and has a wide range of factsheets, training, support groups as well as online discussion forums and information on benefits maximisation.

Gingerbread NI provides similar services across Northern Ireland.

In Scotland, One Parent Families Scotland provides single parents with access to information, guidance and support.
