Race Across America

DSRA cyclists and Helen Kovaks

22 June 2015

Last weekend (20 June) a group of MOD staff bid to become the first team of civilian defence staff to complete the infamous Race Across America, in aid of The Charity for Civil Servants!

As the name suggests it’s one of the toughest and most renowned endurance events.

The team (some of which are pictured above with Helen Kovacs, MOD Client Relationship Manager for the Charity) will start the 3,000 mile route from San Diego on the west coast of America to Annapolis on the east. And must have it completed in just nine days.

In the months leading up to the event the team had struggled to find insurance, but thankfully The Civil Service Insurance Society came to the rescue, finding the policy and paying the premium. (So don’t forget CSIS if you’re making a trip abroad even if it's not an endurance event!)

Ahead of the Challenge, Dom White from the DSRA told us:  “As well as celebrating our 25th anniversary and highlighting the importance of teamwork and good health, we’re excited to be bringing together a group of civilian staff from many of the MOD’s business areas.

“And we’re delighted to be helping a brilliant charity which supports so many of our colleagues across the country.”

If you’d like to support these brave cyclists, you can help them reach the £3,000 target (that’s £1 for every mile the team will cover) via their JustGiving page. And you can see their progress here.
