OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is a serious anxiety-related condition that affects around 750,000 people in the UK (based on info from OCD UK website). Together with their families, this means OCD is part of daily life for over 1 million people in the UK every day.
What is OCD?
OCD is a serious anxiety-related condition where a person experiences frequent intrusive and unwelcome obsessional thoughts, commonly referred to as obsessions. These obsessions are distressing and result in a person carrying out repetitive behaviours or rituals to prevent a perceived harm and/or worry that preceding obsessions have focused their attention on. These behaviours or rituals are commonly known as compulsions.
OCD is often misunderstood and misrepresented. For those who experience this disorder, it can impact significantly on their everyday life.
