Convalescence and respite care

Convalescence is the gradual recovery of health and strength after illness or following surgery.

Our advisors can help you find a suitable home for you to go to during convalescence. We may be able to consider financial support towards the cost, should you find that your local social services department are unable to assist.

It's important that you discuss care arrangements with social services before you are discharged from hospital.

We work closely with several organisations who provide convalescent care. We are a member organisation of Careways Trust and we would be happy to refer a civil servant for further information about the services they offer.

Respite care

Respite care allows a person to have a temporary break from their caring responsibilities.

We can consider financial assistance towards the cost of a respite break with or without the person you care for, as we understand that it's not always easy to leave the person you care for.

A care needs assessment from your local authority's social services department will decide whether the person you care for is entitled to respite care.

This is your chance to discuss with social services what support you need with caring so that you can take a break off, and complete a carers assessment.

You can find contact details for your local authority in the directory of local carers services.
